HE 2350 - 3908 : a dwarf nova with a 78 m orbital period ?

چکیده
We present time resolved CCD photometry and spec-troscopy of the cataclysmic variable HE2350-3908 discovered in the Hamburg/ESO survey. We find that the orbital period of this source is 78.2 min. This is the shortest orbital period known to date for a cataclysmic variable with a normal hydrogen-rich secondary. The optical spectrum and the orbital light curve of HE2350-3908 is very similar to WZ Sge, and we argue that the source is a dwarf nova type cataclysmic variable with a very low mass-transfer rate, and a long recurrence time.

CSS100603:112253111037: a heliumrich dwarf nova with a 65min orbital period
We present time-resolved optical spectroscopy of the dwarf nova CSS100603: 112253−111037. Its optical spectrum is rich in helium, with broad, double-peaked emission lines produced in an accretion disc. We measure a line flux ratio He I λ5876/Hα = 1.49 ± 0.04, a much higher ratio than is typically observed in dwarf novae. The orbital period, as derived from the radial velocity of the line wings,...
متن کاملNova–induced Mass Transfer Variations
We investigate variations of the mass transfer rate in cataclysmic variables (CVs) that are induced by nova outbursts. The ejection of nova shells leads to a spread of transfer rates in systems with similar orbital period. The effect is maximal if the specific angular momentum in the shell is the same as the specific orbital angular momentum of the white dwarf. We show analytically that in this...

Our photometric monitoring revealed that DW Cnc, which was originally classified as a dwarf nova (V = 15– 17.5), remained at a bright state of Rc = 14.68 ± 0.07 for 61 days. In conjunction with optical spectra lacking a strong He ii emission line, we propose that the object is not a dwarf nova, but a non-magnetic novalike variable. Throughout our monitoring, the object showed strong quasi-perio...
متن کاملOn the MV (peak) Versus Orbital Period Relation for Dwarf Nova Outbursts
We present computations for the accretion disk limit cycle model in an attempt to explain the empirical relation for dwarf nova outbursts between the peak visual absolute magnitude and orbital period found by Warner. For longer period systems one sees intrinsically brighter outbursts. This is accounted for in the limit cycle model by the scaling with radius of the critical surface density Σmax ...
متن کاملHigh speed photometry of faint Cataclysmic Variables : II . RS Car , V 365 Car , V 436 Car
Short time scale photometric properties of eight faint Cataclysmic Variable (CV) stars are presented. Nova Carinae 1895 (RS Car) has a photometric modulation at 1.977 h which could be either an orbital or a superhump period. Nova Carinae 1948 (V365 Car) shows flickering, but any orbital modulation has a period in excess of 6 h. The nova-like variable and X-ray source V436 Car has an orbital mod...
